by Magno Urbano During the last years I am tired of being part in several beta testing programs, including Adobe and Macromedia (RIP), and always complaining about the same thing: applications are unecessarrily and excessively big. Dealing with software programming for decades, I know that virtually all software presently are still using legacy techniques of loading all the software in memory when the software is run, instead of loading just the structure and loading each command on demand. Beyond the FTP module that never worked fine, Deeamweaver is the best candidate I have for how to create a big and sluggish application. |

by Magno Urbano Google has just release version 4 of Google Earth.  In this new release, Google made some tweaks, simplifying the program’s interface letting more room to the user. As usual, some famous spots around the globe received higher resolution images and some, as the Colosseum, even received 3D models, as you can see in the picture. Google Earth 4 is available for Mac, Linux and Windows and can be downloaded here. |

Apple announced today that it is extending the deadline for ordering the upgrade version of Final Cut Pro. The new deadline is now march 18th, 2007.
It seems that Apple is giving users a Christmas gift…

Adobe Labs (labs.adobe.com) released today a beta version of its forthcoming Photoshop CS3.
Despite the beta release being free, to be able to use the beta version (Windows or Mac), users are asked for a valid Photoshop CS2 license number during registration.
Beyond many other news, this beta version comes with a new version of Adobe Bridge (image browser and organizer).
The final Photoshop CS3 is expected to be released in the spring of 2007.

A new version of VideoLAN or just VLC player as it is know, was launched this week.
This new version of VLC comes to correct a few bugs and give support to formats like Windows Media Video 9, Flash Video (FLV) and H.264.
VLC has the ability to run stream videos from files or DVD/CD, over the network.
This new version has also Unicode (subtitles are still buggy) support and can play videos in full screen.
Other improvements were done in the play list and on the effects module.

A guy called Bryan has just release a widget (for Mac OS X) called Gwidget.
Gwidget, a contraction of Google Widget, allows one to search Google without leaving Dashboard.
